Fifth GenerationCharles Peacock (1852 - 1892) - son of John Peacock (1813 - 1896) - son of John Peacock (1766 - 1829) - son of John Peacock (1738-?) - son of John Peacock (about 1710 - 1742) Charles Peacock is a direct ancestor of Bill Burgar, author of this work. He was born on 13 August 1852 in Matching Green and was baptized in Abbots Roothing Congregational Church, Abbots Roothing, Essex.227 The Baptism Register of Abbots Roothing Congregational Church, Abbess* Roding*, Essex, has the entry: Charles Peacock, son of John & Eliza Peacock of Matching Green, was born 13.8.1852 and was baptised 17.10.1852. * See note on the name changes of villages in the River Roothing or Roding valley. He is living at home with his parents in the 1861 and 1871 Censuses. See 1861 and 1871 Census returns. Charles Peacock and Jane Eliza Webster were married in Penge, Surrey.25 Civil Registration of Marriage reference is Mar 1873, V 2a, p 296 - Croydon, Surrey.16 The Marriage Certificate states: Charles Peacock, aged 21, Bachelor and Coachman, of Penge, and Jane Eliza Webster, aged 18 of Penge, were married by Banns on the 3/3/1873 at St John the Evangelist of Penge. Charles Peacock and Jane Eliza Webster both signed. The fathers were: John Peacock, Farm
Labourer, and Richard Webster, Deceased. He appears with his wife and growing family in later Censuses. See 1881 and 1891 Census returns Charles died in 1892 in Battersea aged 40 years. Charle's wife, Jane Eliza Webster was born in 1854 in St Brides, Fleet St, London.13 8 She appears as a widow in the 1901 Census with many of her younger children.
