Thomas Peacock (1840 - ?) - son of John Peacock (1803- 1843) - son of William Peacock (1778 - 1845) - son of John Peacock (1738-?) - son of John Peacock (about 1710-1742)

Thomas Peacock was born in 1840 in Matching , Newmans End, Essex.222 He was baptized on 23 January 1848 in St Mary the Virgin, Matching, Essex.222 The Baptism Register of St Mary the Virgin, Matching, Essex has the entry:

Thomas, aged 7 years, son of John & Elizabeth Peacock, Labourer of Newmans End, was baptised 23.1.1848

In the 1841 Census, he was living with his parents but after his father died he was living with his brothers and sisters in 1851 and was a lodger in 1861.

Thomas Peacock and Emma Whitbread16 were married in 1861 . The Civil Marriage registration reference is: Dec 1861, v 4a, p 91: in Ongar, Essex.16

He appears with his growing family in the 1871 and 1881 Census returns.

In 1891 Emma and family are living in High Laver.  She is married but Thomas is not with her.  As a bricklayer, he may have been working away from home.

We have not been able to find Thomas in the 1891 Census.  But in 1901, Emma is a widow.  It is uncertain whether Thomas had died or had deserted his family.  In the latter case, Emma might have considered herself a widow.

Emma Whitbread was born in 1844 in High Laver, Essex.14

Thomas Peacock and Emma Whitbread had the following children:

Thomas Peacock was baptised in 1864 in All Saints, High Laver, Essex.243 The Baptism Register for All Saints, High Laver, Essex, has the entry:

Thomas, son of Thomas & Emma Peacock, Labourer, of Matching Green, was baptised 16/6/1864

He appears with his parents in the 1871 and 1881 Censuses.

He died in 1890, at the age of 26 years, and was was buried  in High Laver, Essex.243 The Burial Register for All Saints, High Laver, Essex, has the entry:

Thomas Peacock, aged 26, was buried 29/1/1890

The Civil Death registration reference is: Mar 1890, v 4a, p 187, Ongar. Aged 26. 16

Marianne Peacock was baptized in St Mary the Virgin, Matching, Essex.222 The Baptism Register of St Mary the Virgin, Matching, Essex has the entry:

Marianne, daughter of Thomas & Emma Peacock, Labourer of Matching Green, was baptised 17.6.1866

She appears with her parents in the 1871 Census

James Peacock was was baptized in 1870 in All Saints, High Laver, Essex.243 The Baptism Register for All Saints, High Laver, Essex, has the entry:

James, son of Thomas and Emma Peacock, Labourer of High Laver, was baptised 24.4.1870

John Peacock was  was baptized on 29 August 1875 in All Saints, High Laver, Essex.243 The Baptism Register for All Saints, High Laver, Essex, has the entry:

John, son of Thomas and Emma Peacock, Labourer of High Laver, was baptised 29.8.1875

He appears with his parents in the 1881 Census and with his mother in the 1891 and 1901 Censuses.

Minnie Peacock was  was baptized in 1881 in All Saints, High Laver, Essex.243 The Baptism Register for All Saints, High Laver, Essex, has the entry:

Minnie, daughter of Thomas and Emma Peacock, Labourer of High Laver, was baptised 2.1.1881

She appears with her parents in the 1881 Census and with her mother in the 1891 Census.

She appears in the 1901 Census as a visitor at her brother William's house in Edmonton, London.  She was a Domestic Servant15
