William 'Littel' & Mary Pepper both of this Parish married by Banns on
29/11/1803. WL signed as William Little and MP signed X It is interesting that William signed his name here, and at the marriage of his sister Elizabeth, but not at the marriage of his sister Mary, 8 years earlier. Was it that he had only recently learnt to write? Or had he been lazy at the time of the first signing and decided a X was easier and quicker. He died in 1838 in Matching Green, Essex 222 and was buried in St Mary the Virgin, Matching, Essex.222 The Burial Register of St Mary the Virgin, Matching, Essex has the entry: William Little of Matching green aged 61, was buried 26/9/1838 We have not found any children of the marriage. The Burial Register of St Mary the Virgin, Matching, Essex has the entry: Mary Little of Bethlehem Green Middx aged 43 was buried 2/5/1827 It is possible that this refers to the wife of William Little. If so then it suggests that they both might have been living in Middlesex until the death of his wife, and her burial in Matching. William died in 1838 and was also buried in Matching. |
