Summary of Burgar persons present in the Bruce Muniments  of 1712 -1717. 4

The Quendale Estate was owned by the Sinclair family until they had to sell up in the 1770s. The Bruce family took over some of the estate, hence these records come from the Bruce Estate records, the "Bruce of Simbister Muniments Reference GD 144/7/1". We first saw these in the Scottish Record Office in about 1990.  However, the Scottish Record Office say that they have now passed these documents to the Shetland Record Office, although the latter say that they do not have them.

These accounts show that 4 Burgar families were living in Hillwell, Dunrossness at this time.

They were: John Burgar,  Laurance Burgar, Robert Burgar and John Burgar Jnr, the son of Robert Burgar.

The first three Burgars are the same persons as those appearing in the Baillie Court of Dunrossness in 1694 and 1700.  They are shown on the family tree with their parents George Burger and Jean Williamson.

See Family tree up derived from documents that existed up to 1720.
