James is now a widower living with his son Adam and daughter-in-law, Jannet (Anderson) Burgess. His wife died in 1867 and died in 1872.

Note: It is seen that there is considerable age discrepancies in these Census returns (he was born in 1803,1797, 1794, 1792). His birth date according the the Shetland Family History Society is the 5th November 1801, which is very precise. I am not sure where this was obtained since I do not have access to all the records in Shetland. It might be from a family bible or some other source.
