Kathrine Martha Burgar was born in 1873 in Sheffield, Yorkshire.16 Civil Registration of Births reference is Jun 1873 V 9c p 374 (Registered as Kate) - Sheffield, Yorkshire16

A summary of the Birth Certificate states:

Kate Burgar was born 21 Feb 1873  at 52  Portland Street.  Mother - Harriet Burgar  formerly Blanksby, living at 65 Bayley Street, Sheffield.  The birth was registered on the 4th April 1873 in the North Sheffield sub-district of Sheffield.

The Certificate does not record the name or occupation of the father.

She died in 1928.91

Katherine appears in the 1881 Census living with her widowed mother. Since she was born about 2 years after Edwin Burgar had died, it is unclear who her father was.

See 1881 Census

We believe that we may have found Katherine in the 1891 Census, but she is down as Kate Burgon. There are families of Burgon in Sheffield at this time. However, we have not been able to find a Kate, Catherine etc. being born in Sheffield or surrounding area. Neither is there a Kate Burgon in the 1881 Census as far as we can ascertain. It is therefore possible that this Kate is Kate Burgar, but entered in the Census as Burgon by her employer.

See 1891 Census

A Kate Burgon is again present in the 1901 Census as a servant. This seems to be the same person as in the 1891 Census. It is possible that it is Kate Burgar.

See 1901 Census

In the 1901 Census, Horace, the son of Kate born in 1897, is living with his aunt Jane Eliza (Burgar) Grant. See Horace below.
