Thomas Wright Burgar was born in 1883 in Sheffield, Yorkshire.¹⁶ Civil Registration of Births reference is Dec 1883 V 9c p 437 - Sheffield, Yorkshire¹⁶

Tom Burgar enlisted in the Army within two months of the war starting.¹¹¹ At this time he had 3 young children with another on the way. He was a blacksmith at the time of enlistment.

He served for a limited time in France, but seems to have a kidney problem (Nephritis) which kept him in the UK for the rest of the war. He received a small pension for his disability.

He died on the 16/4/1922 at Wanton? St Hospital, Sheffield. The cause of death was Pulmonary Tuberculosis. Bertha Burgar notified the Army on 28th April 1922.¹¹¹

Thomas Wright Burgar and Bertha Bell were married in 1905. His Army records state:

Married Bertha Bell, spinster, at St Martins, Walkley, Sheffield, on 25/12/1905¹¹¹

About 1920 he was a the owner of a drapers shop in Owtley, Walkley.⁹⁰

Bertha Bell was born in 1884.¹⁶

She died in 1955 at Sheffield, Yorkshire.¹⁶ Civil Registration of Death reference is Mar 1955 V 2d p 96. Aged 71. - Sheffield, Yorkshire.¹⁶
