John Little was born in 1691 in St Mary the Virgin, Matching, Essex.27

John was a Blacksmith.

John Little and Mary (unknown) were married about 1710.

 Mary (his wife)  died in 1744 in St Mary the Virgin, Matching, Essex.222 The Burial Register of St Mary the Virgin, Matching, Essex has the entry:

Mary Little was buried 30/3/1744

John Little and Mary  had the following children:

After Mary's death,  John Little married Martha Humphrey in  1746 in St Mary the Virgin, Matching, Essex.222 The Marriage Register of St Mary the Virgin, Matching, Essex has the entry:

John Little, Widower, & Martha Humphrey, spinster, both of Matching were married by Licence 24/10/1746
 

The Marriage License (reference At Essex Record Office is  D/ALL 1747 ) is summarised as follows:

John Little, 55, Widower, of Matching, on 23/2/1746, to Martha Humphrey, 40, Spinster of Matching to be married at Matching.

Witnesses John Little, Blacksmith of Matching, & John ?? of Little Laver, John Bernard & Ann Bernard

John Little died in 1761 in St Mary the Virgin, Matching, Essex.222 The Burial Register of St Mary the Virgin, Matching, Essex has the entry:

John Little was buried 21/8/1761

John Peacock left a Will - (reference 226 BR 25 1763 Reel 17 at Essex Record Office).

A summary of his will states:

John Little Blacksmith of Matching

to daughter Mary Paine (Widow) a house and her son a silver watch

to daughter Elizabeth Dennis a house

to son John £12

to wife Martha use of 3 rooms of house adjoining the Cock Public House

Mary to be executor

Obviously John Little was quite wealthy.   Presumably, John, who was also a blacksmith, inherited the blacksmith premises


Martha Humphrey  (his second wife) was born in 170627 and died in 1780 in Matching.

The Burial Register 222  of St Mary the Virgin, Matching, Essex has the entry:

Martha Little was buried 7/2/1780
