Fourth GenerationJames Bond (1806- 1876) - son of James Bond (1761-1833) - son of Edmund Bond (1732-1811) - son of Edmund Bond (about 1700-1769) James Bond was born on 27 October 1806 and was baptized on 25 January 1807 in Clavering, Essex.179 The Baptism Register at Clavering has the entry: James son of James Bond and Zibiah was born 27/10/1806 and baptised on 25/1/1807.
James Bond and Elizabeth Pomfret were married on 22 March 1827 in
Clavering, Essex.179
The
Marriage Register of the Parish Church of Clavering in Essex states: Frances and Susan Bond were sisters of James Bond. It seems that this part of the Bond family were all literate, or at least could sign their names. This was true of their half sister, Mary on her marriage to Joseph Harrett. 62 James and Elizabeth Bond appear in the 1841 Census, in Arkesden, but do not have any children. He is listed as a Carpenter. Elizabeth Pomfret was born in about 1805.4 She was buried on 16 February 1848 in Clavering, Essex.179 The Burial Register at Clavering states: Elizabeth Bond aged 43 of Arkesdon buried 16/2/1848.179 Thus after 21 years of marriage they seem to not have had any children. After the death of his first wife, Elizabeth Pomfret, James Bond appears as a widow in the 1851 Census for Clodmorehill, Arkesden.10 James Bond then moves to Burton-on-Trent where he marries Sarah Marklew in 1866. Civil Registration of Marriage reference is Mar 1866, Vol 6b, p 430 - in Burton-on-Trent, Staffs.17 The Civil Registration Marriage Certificate 25

The family appear in the 1871 Census in Burton-on-Trent, Staffs.12
James died in 1876 in Burton-on-Trent, Staffs.16 The Civil Registration of Death reference is Mar 1876, Vol 6b, p 264. Age 68 - in Burton-on-Trent, Staffs.16 During his life he was variously described as a Carpenter/Joiner.10,25 In 1881 Sarah Bond and her son, James Marklew Bond, were living with with his mother's cousin. Sarah was described as an annuitant. Presumably she was left money from her husband James, or maybe from her own family. He appears in the 1901 Census along with his sister and brother-in-law, Alfred Mews. |
