Elizabeth, born 12th April 1796, daughter of John and Catherine Burgar, was baptised
on 8th May 1796 at St Botolphs Bishopsgate
Elizabeth was the youngest daughter of John Burgar and Catherine Fitkin Burgar.
She was only about one year old when her father died, and only about 4 years
old when her mother died.
An Elizabeth Burgar and William Carden were married on 29 Apr 1815 in St Botolphs,
Bishopsgate, London.51 The
following is a summary of the entry in the Marriage Register:
Elizabeth Burgar, Spinster of this Parish and William Carden, Bachelor of this
Parish were married on the 29th April 1815 at St Botolphs Bishopsgate.
We believe this Elizabeth to be John Burgar's daughter. Firstly, because she
would be of the right age, 19 years at the time, and secondly because the marriage
took place in the area where she was born.
William Carden (son of Richard Carden )
was born in 1791 in St Mathew, Bethnal Green, London.20,81 He was
baptized on 23 Jan 1791 in St Mathew, Bethnal Green, London.20,81
The entry in the Baptsim Register is:
William, son of Richard and Ann Carden was baptised on the 23rd January
1791 at St Matthew, Bethnal Green.
If this is the William Carden that married Elizabeth Burgar then he would be
25 years old at the time of marriage.
Elizabeth Burgar and William Carden had the following children:
| i. | Amelia Carden was born in 1816 in St
Dunstans, Stepney, London.56
He was baptized on 6 Oct 1816 in St Dunstans, Stepney, London.56 The following is a summary of the entry in the Baptism Register: Amelia, daughter of William and Betsy Carden was baptised on the 6th October 1816 at St Dunstans, Stepney. The replacement of Betsy for Elizabeth is not uncommon, and has occurred with other Burgars. However about 10 years after this baptism the IGI shows another William and Elizabeth Carden having children, so Amelia may not be Elizabeth Burgar's daughter. |
