The Burial Register for All Saints, Poplar has the entry:

Nothing is known of William for some time after the death of his parents. He
first reappears at his marriage to Matilda Locke when he was 30 years old.
60
The following is a summary of the entry in the Marriage Register:
William Burgar , bachelor of this Parish and Matilda Locke, spinster of
this Parish were married on the 24th September 1822 St George in the East, Stepney.
Both signed the register. The witnesses were M. Rivett and Thomas Sadler.
There is no mention of his parents or his occupation.
They appear in the 1841 and 1851 Censuses.
See 1841 and 1851 Census.
It would seem from this Census that William was born in 1796 not 1792. However,
when William died in 1854 his Death Certificate above stated that he was 62.
This age at death correctly puts his date of birth as being 1792. It illustrates
that the census returns were not always correct. In the 1851 census above he should
have been 59, not 55.
William in his Will left his possessions to his wife, as summarised below.78
William Burgar, shipwright, of St Annes Place Limehouse, signed
on 2nd April 1854 and witnessed by John Merry, 6 Norton Folgate, & Charles
Sumpter, 4 Grindly St, Poplar. Proceeds to be left to his wife Matilda
Matilda Locke was born in 1798.17

Burgar, Female, age 59 years, widow of William Burgar Shipwright, Cause of death
- bronchitus, M.Lambert of 2 Dudley Terrace, present at the death.
Matilda in her Will left her estate, valued at £440 to her brother, John
Locke , in Cape Town, South Africa. She must therefore have been reasonably
well off.
We think that Matilda might have helped with bringing up the family of her brother-in-law,
Joseph.
