George with his parents Robert James Burgar and Janetta (Gordon) Burgar.

It was very unusual for anyone of 15 not to be working.  Later Census returns state that he was deaf and dumb, so probably George was helping Mum and Dad with tasks in the shoe business.

George is still living at home with his mather and siblings.  His father was away from home, lodging in Chelsea.  By this time the property was owned by Robert Edward (sometimes Edmond).  He also owned 19 Little Europa Place.  It would seem that he was reasonably successful as a milkman.  A milkman at that time often owned a few cows and was thus able to supply milk to persons in the neighbourhood.

Recorded as Burges and as being deaf and dumb.  Stated to be ‘working on own account from home’.  This institution was a hospital.  A large proportion of the patients were recorded as Workers and were of working age.  There was a children’s section and a section for the old, many in their 70s.
