Susan, married Hugh Stynes in 1856 and her two siblings, Alfred and John Burgar, were now living with her. The fact that her eldest child was called Matilda suggests that their Aunt Matilda (Locke) Burgar had helped to support the family after the death of her brother-in-law, Joseph Burgar. Unfortunately, aunt Matilda Burgar died in 1857, so it is possible that this is when Susan started to look after her brothers. Her sister, Caroline, who was 14 years old at this time, was in an orphanage.
